Mediterranean Diet

Have you ever heard of the Mediterranean Diet? It’s one of the most commonly searched diets on the Internet, but most people don’t know exactly what it is.

Well first of all, it’s not really a prescribed diet – it’s an eating lifestyle that tends to include healthier choices than what many of us usually make here in the US. There are more than 20 countries in and around the Mediterranean Sea, including European, African and Middle Eastern, so the types of foods and recipes vary widely by region.

Generally speaking, the “Mediterranean way” includes lots of veggies, healthy oils and mostly fish, seafood and chicken. Other meats such as beef and pork are consumed, but only occasionally.

Consistently applying this method of eating to our lives often results in some very positive outcomes. Studies have shown that it can improve heart health, stave off Type 2 diabetes, and lead to weight loss – all good news!
