Butterscotch Breakfast Bread

When I was a kid we had lots of Easter traditions, as so many families do. There were dyed eggs (and the accompanying dyed finger tips and stained t-shirts), Easter baskets, and nearly always an Easter Sunrise Service at church. I have two younger brothers, who I was generally taunting, teasing and antagonizing but at Easter time ... the season of forgiveness ... love would fill my heart and I would forgive my brothers for being little and annoying by sneaking out and buying extra candy for their Easter baskets. Huh. Sisters can be so unpredictable!

Since Easter often involves early morning activities, today we have a recipe for Butterscotch Breakfast Bread and it is full of awesome! When I sliced the first loaf, I think some heavenly light actually came out. So whether you celebrate Easter or not ... you must try this bread! It's my favorite bread ever and I'm betting it will become yours too.

Tips and Hints

  • At the risk of going overboard ... I'm going to tell you that this bread is fabulous. It is fantastic, amazing, enough to make me weep. I love it. I want to marry it.
  • Creme soda was not difficult to find - our little grocery store carries 20 ounce bottles of it right in the check-out late. Just pay attention to the ounces ... you need 12 ounces for the recipe, so you get to drink the rest!
  • For the top, I had some big sugar crystals leftover from a Tastefully Simple sweet cheese ball of days gone by, so I used them here. It was not only delicious, but also pretty.
  • The bread will slice much more easily if you let the loaf cool completely first ... and with the way this bread smells coming out the oven, waiting can be a challenge!
  • My family also loved this bread, and when I brought a loaf to work - well, I was the hero of THAT meeting!
